CTA: Two bills election integrity bills in the Senate

Please contact your representatives NOW and voice your opinion to get these 2 bills election integrity bills passed by this Thursday, March 14. To find your legislators go to https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/findand personally contact, call, or write to them.
1. HF 2610 / SF 2380 This bill has passed the House–now we need it to pass in the Senate. This bill prohibits RCV, bans ballot drop boxesestablishes a real-time voter registration verification pilot program, adds a voter ID requirement for returning absentee ballots, changes the window slightly for early in-person absentee voting, makes changes to conditions for objecting to a candidate for federal office, and updates the Safe at Home program.
2. SF 2078 Citizenship Verification for Voters Requires a U.S. citizenship verification for those registering to vote and a one-time U.S. citizenship verification for all registered voters and to cancel the registration of voters whose citizenship cannot be verified.
We often hear that “there is no voter fraud in Iowa”, yet the wife of a Woodbury Co. supervisor was found guilty of 52 counts of voter fraud in November after she filled out and cast absentee ballots in her husband’s unsuccessful race for a Republican nomination to run for Congress in 2020 (source: https://www.iowapublicradio.org/ipr-news/2023-11-21/woodbury-county-supervisors-wife-found-guilty-of-52-counts-of-voter-fraud). This only took 3 years.

There is a potential of voting anomalies when we find that:
  • Volunteers have found over 39,000 names on the Iowa voter rolls who have moved and registered in another state between 2019-2022 and have helped auditors remove over 8,000 of them (which included deceased and duplicate records).
  • In April 2021, the SOS office said 91 people … who had their voter registration canceled due to a status reason of “Jury Declination – Not a Citizen.” So we know there are non-citizens on our voter rolls. (We have requested a new list).
Passage of these 2 bills will go a long way to promote election integrity in Iowa.
Thank you,
Iowa Canvassing volunteers
